I love sunsets for so many reasons.
I love the colors dusk paints the sky in and the way the light dimming makes me feel as the sun prepares to let stars shine. But above the beauty of sunsets (pun not intended, but welcomed), what I love most is the meaning behind them.
When you catch a glimpse of a sunset, wherever you are, you know that the day is ending, serving as a reminder of the passage of time. You know that even if you’ve had a really bad day, dusk is a time of hope for a better new day after a (hopefully) restful night.
Sunsets stand as proof that your bad day is over and maybe a new dawn will bring with it more positive feelings and energy.
There was a time in my life when I was miserable, feeling hopeless, and depressed. And I remember that every evening, I would look forward to watching the sun set. Most evenings, I would watch the beautiful colors of the sun bidding me a good night from my balcony with a glass of wine (I live for a good rose!) and would think that maybe tomorrow, I would feel differently, better. Maybe it’s for this reason that sunsets always give me hope and after watching them, I always feel energized for the opportunity of a new day.
For me, sunsets are beauty, hope, and an amazing time to reflect.
This is why I am, and forever will be, a sunset chaser.
In all my travels, I always look for the best spots to watch the sun as it goes beyond the horizon.
This was the case during my trip to Lefkada. I specifically researched places where I could enjoy a memorable sunset experience and I want to share them with you.
Amente Restaurant and Bar
I loved everything about this place so much that we returned the next night to better soak up the atmosphere. The funny thing is that I had zero expectations. I saw some photos before going, but like most cases, I thought that the photos were too edited.
I experienced disappointment in several places, due to the fact that people usually edit their pictures, or find the best time when no one is there, to catch that perfect moment, which does not reflect reality.
Now, let’s go back to the story of this day. From the first moment I arrived at Amente, I got that “Omg” feeling. I didn’t know where to look first: the beautifully designed pool situated in the middle of the sitting area, the way the clouds looked so close to us, like the whole restaurant was floating into the sky, or the way the horizon line of the sea gave the impression of infinity.
If you want to be sure you get a table, I recommend you make a reservation. When we visited this year (2021), they had rules regarding the amount you had to spend, depending on the table you choose. If you want to be closer to the pool, you would need to eat and drink (consume) at a minimum of 20-30 euro/pers. Of course, you can sit further from the pool and still enjoy a perfect night and spend how much you want. Maybe at the time you plan to visit this isn’t the case, but research beforehand.
I also want to point out that this is not a cheap restaurant. The food is pretty expensive, but if you want to plan a romantic, special night and dress up, this is the place to do it. If you are on a tight budget, but still want to experience the Amente otherworldly sunsets, you can opt for serving just drinks at the bar area. Don’t worry, you can enjoy the amazing view either way.
To experience the full sunset effect, try to arrive at the restaurant an hour before, so you will have time for a proper photoshoot. My poor husband had to take lots of photos. I wanted to capture every moment because every passing second brought new colors or new lighting. I still don’t know if he agreed with me, but I didn’t hear any complaints :)).
We ordered food and drinks and spent the night admiring the view and indulged in delicious dishes. The next night was even more magical because we also listened to live jazz. If you check their social media page, you will find out which nights they have special events.
Jazz, delicious food and magical sunset colors - Let’s get deep now
Maybe this is just me, but I realized that in certain scenarios listening to jazz and experiencing a magical and beautifully colored sunset can transpose you mentally to another dimension. (Please tell me I’m not the only one).
In a few words, this is how I felt one night in Lefkada. My tummy was full and happy after I ate a delicious dinner and I enjoyed my non-alcoholic drink (just found out that I was pregnant) while listening to this divine music.
I sat there and just stared blankly and thought about my life plans, my dreams and goals and all the reasons I loved traveling so much. And without doubt, this is one of them.
I felt empowered by the fact that my hard work and life decisions brought me to this moment and other wonderful ones along my journey.
I also thought about all those times I felt discouraged, too dreamy, or too ambitious. The truth is that it’s hard to be positive and productive all the time. I think that these special moments come into our lives to remind us of our journey, to bring us back on track and rejuvenate our depleted energy and spirit. For me at that time, that magical moment consisted of jazz, delicious food and stunning sunset colors.
The night ended with me feeling inspired and creative and driven to keep working and fighting for my dream life.
Lighthouse of Cape Lefkada
If you want to admire a gorgeous sunset in Lefkada, but don’t want to pay for it, include on your itinerary a trip to the lighthouse of Cape Lefkada. This spot is a must-see on its own, but if you also want to enjoy the evening there, try to arrive at least an hour before sunset.
The experience at Cape Lefkada is different (besides the fact that it’s free). The view consists of a wild landscape and a mysterious lighthouse that for sure was haunted, because let’s be real, all lighthouses are haunted, right?! Or maybe this is just me and my addiction to horror movies:)). Anyway, the point I was trying to make is that Cape Lefkada is a peaceful and lonely place where you can enjoy a serene sunset moment.
I want to leave you with this:
Sometimes the most simple and unplanned moments are the most memorable ones.
