But if you say yes, stay tuned, because in this article I will delight you with one of the best desserts I ever ate in a wonderful location.

Reason to visit Mostnica Gorge and Voje Valley
If all the photos from this Mostnica Gorge travel guide aren’t proof enough for you (or my enthusiastic writing), here are additional reasons why you should put Mostnica Gorge and Voje Valley on your travel itinerary:
- If you enjoy doing long walks in nature, and easy and relaxing hikes, then this trail is for you. The hike to the Mostnica Waterfall which is located at the end of the whole trail, in Voje Valley can take approx. 2 – 2:30 hours. But, if you prefer a shorter version, you can skip the valley and visit only the gorge (which is only a few minutes from the ticket booth)
- You are going to discover how magnificent the power of a river can be in shaping the rocks. There is one in particular that looks like an elephant.
- You are going to eat great food in Voje Valley while enjoying one of the best views (remember those amazing pies I mentioned at the beginning of the article?!)
- If you are a waterfall passionate photographer, you can take great shots at Mostnica Waterfall
- Is very close to Bohinj Lake, if you have already planned to visit it.
- If you are into active traveling, you are going to include a nice exercising session during your trip
Where is it located?
If you are visiting Bohinj, Mostnica Gorge is very close to Lake Bohinj at approx. 15 minutes. However, if you are coming from other places, here is a list of the most popular locations:
- from Bled: approx 30 minutes
- from Ljubljana: approx 1 hour
The gorge starts in Stara Fuzina village. There is also a parking lot available if you are traveling by car.
Travel tip: I recommend you choose to rent a car while visiting Slovenia. There are so many spectacular places that you shouldn’t miss out.
How much does it cost to visit?
The cost of visiting the gorge is 3 euros/adult. As you can see it was very cheap, but even if the price was higher the trail is worth it, as you can see in all the beautiful photos.
Keep in mind that these prices are from 2019.
Where to stay
If you want to visit Mostnica Gorge, you can find accommodation in Bohinj or Bled. If you decide on Bohinj, I have to recommend to you the place we stayed in Bohinj, where we enjoyed our morning coffees while marveling at the glorious mountain views from our balcony. The name of the place is House Jager and I wrote all about it in my Bohinj Complete Travel Guide article. If you want to know more, check it out here. Also, this place got bonus points from me, because the host gave us amazing tips for our visit there. I always appreciate local advice, because they know all the well-kept secrets.
What can you expect from the hike
Mostnica Gorge
From the ticket booth, the trail is very short and in a few minutes, you are going to get to the gorge.
Mostnica Gorge is a place where you can witness nature being at its best, with interesting reshaped rocks, crystal clear waters, waterfalls and rich flora. The whole trail is made of unique and picturesque landscapes that will catch your eye at every step.
The trail starts with the gorge, and after that, it follows an easy hike to the Voje Valley and Mostnica waterfall (or Okrepcevalnica slap waterfall), which can be found at the very end of the trail. When you walk through the beautiful gorge, look out for a unique and interesting rock formation that is shaped like an elephant. We almost missed it and it was so ironic because we captured it in a lot of photos. Can you spot the elephant in the picture below?
Along the way to the gorge, there are many spots perfect for great photos.
You can find more information on Bohinj’s official website.
Voje Valley
I had to include this Mostnica Gorge travel guide this amazing place. After admiring the gorge and taking as many photos as possible, you can return and call it a day, or you can follow the path ahead that leads to Voje Valley. Keep in mind that from the gorge, the hike to the valley is approx. 2 hours, depending on how many breaks you are going to take. As I said before, the hike is very easy because it is mostly flat (very children-friendly)., but it can get very sunny if you are visiting during summer days (sun protection is recommended).
After you get to the valley, you can rest your legs on the grassland while admiring wildflowers and the mountains in the background. This scenery is ideal for a photo session or for having a little picnic.
Now, about that amazing pie, I already mentioned. In Voje Valley you will discover Koca na Vojah. This is a mountain hut that offers a variety of homemade foods, like soups and pies.
If you want to hear more (if that’s even possible) about these pies, check out this Bohinj travel guide I wrote.
After we visited the waterfall, we decided to eat something and drink coffee at the hut. And let me tell you, that was the best decision ever. We got two pies: blueberry and apricot. When I stare at the photos I want to cry, the pies were so gooooood. Without exaggerating, that moment with my coffee and my pie in Voje Valley was my favorite moment of the entire trip. I still daydream about that beautiful day in Bohinj.
From Koca na Vojah there is a short trail that leads to Mostnica waterfall. We relaxed our legs a little in Voje Valley, after that we went to the waterfall and ended our visit at the alpine hut with coffee and pies. Maybe this is not the most impressive waterfall, but it’s worth visiting if you have already reached Voje Valley.
I hope you find this Mostnica Gorge travel guide interesting and that it made you want to add Mostnica Gorge to your travel itinerary.
