Beautiful Nidri Waterfall – the only guide you need

Are you planning a trip to Lefkada for the coming summer and want to visit more than beautiful beaches?

This travel guide will help you out!

Chances are that most suggestions you’ll find will be regarding the spectacular beaches which attract tourists yearly to visit Lefkada. And after spending more than a week on this Ionian island, I understand why that is. If you prefer to stick only to beach life, I wrote an article “Top beaches to visit in Lefkada” where you will find all of the useful information you need about the most famous beaches.

Besides sunny seashores, the inland part of the island hides several other beauties like waterfalls, canyons and mountains.

Lefkada is very lush in greenery and you will be tempted to discover more of the non coastal areas, as I was. You can read about all the things you should include on your itinerary in the article I wrote “Best 10 things to do in Lefkada ”.

I want to share with you this travel guide with all the important information you need to know and also tell you about my own personal experience.

Why you need to include Nidri Waterfall in your itinerary?

  • being in nature can be refreshing especially when you spend a lot of days in the sweltering heat of the summer days;
  • the walk to the waterfall is a very short and easy to do hike, which will contribute to your active part of the trip;
  • all the lush greenery will offer a nice scenery for photos;
  • you will be visiting a gorgeous and picturesque waterfall (who doesn’t like waterfalls? think about all that force of nature laid-out in front of your eyes).

🗺 Location

In the middle of Nidri Village, from the main road, there is a sign indicating the way to the waterfall. Of course, you can find it on Google Maps as well. So, don’t worry it’s not one of those waterfalls that is hidden from you on purpose!

Raise your hand if you ever got lost on hiking trails in search of waterfalls 😅. One guilty explorer here!

🚙How to get to Nidri Waterfall

  • By car (rental or your own):

Depending on your staying and your travel plans, having a car in Lefkada can be really useful. If you plan to visit all that this island has to offer, I highly recommend you include in your budget a rental car. (More reasons you need a car here).

For us, this wasn’t necessary because we chose to travel from Romania with our personal car (in this case, you should include in your budget the money necessary for gas which will differ according to your plans). If you choose to rent one I recommend you do it before your arrival, otherwise there is a risk that you will not find available cars.

Nidri Waterfalls are easy to find, just put the name on google maps (or the app which you are using) and drive there.

If you are interested in renting a car, then check out rental prices, here.

  • By public transfers:

The main central bus station of the island is located in Lefkada Town and there are several buses that go from there to Nidri. You need to check the time schedules, which can change depending on the season. You can find the time schedules by clicking here.

  • By taxi (or private transfer):

If you don’t want to use any of the other two options, you can order a taxi online.

And you can book one here.

  • By foot:

If you are already staying in Nidri Village, you can check how far the waterfall is and take in consideration the option of walking there.

Things you need to know about Nidri Waterfall before your visit:

  • there is a small free parking site near the waterfall
  • from the parking site you should follow the footpath which is indicated by a sign
  • from the parking site you will walk 350 m (approx 15 min depending on your hiking level)
  • a few meters away from the entrance is a small restaurant which has refreshments
  • there is no entry fee for the trail or for visiting the waterfall

My experience and some personal recommendations:

If you don’t want to rush the hike to the waterfall, you should know that this can be a half day activity. Keep this in mind if you are used to planning ahead every detail of a trip. If you are staying in another village you can plan on the same day seeing the waterfall and exploring Nidri Village, which is one of the most colorful and beautiful villages in Lefkada.

We visited Lefkada in June 2021, and this was a very refreshing experience to do in order to “run” from the summer hot weather. I’m not a big fan of the sun and if you are like me, you’ll not regret this decision.

The footpath is family friendly, but there are steps to climb and here and there are some slippery rocky areas. I recommend you wear proper shoes for hiking/trekking.

The trail leading to the waterfall is very beautiful and picturesque with a small stream that flows along the road.

If you want to avoid the crowd and get a good parking spot, I recommend you plan this activity early in the morning or at least until 12:00 am.

I hope this Nidri Waterfall travel guide was useful and convinced you to visit it.
