Amazing Savica Slap Slovenia - Best Travel Guide
Savica Slap is one of Slovenia’s main attractions and you will see why in this article. I think this is one of the most impressive waterfalls I saw. The hike that is required in order to get to the waterfall, the landscapes surrounding you while you climb the challenging stairs and the magnitude of the waterfall itself put Savica Slap very high on our list.
I highly recommend you add Savica Slap on your Slovenia travel itinerary and I hope that this article will answer most of your questions in regards to the location, whereabouts, what to expect and overall impression of this cool destination.

Where is Savica Slap located?
It’s located on the western side of Lake Bohinj in the region Gorenjska – Radovljic. There are a lot of signs along the road, so don’t worry you aren’t going to miss it.
Distances:
- From Lake Bohinj: 5 km (approx. 5 minutes);
- From Bled: 35 km (approx. 40 minutes).
How to reach Savica Slap?
If you want to visit Savica Slap and explore more of what Slovenia have to offer, then I recommend you rent a car. You can check out prices, here.
To visit the waterfall you will need to pay for a ticket (very affordable, 3 euro/pers).
To get to the waterfall you will have to take part in a hike that includes a lot of stairs. Not gonna lie, there are a lot of them (approx 500), but the hike overall is easy to do and you will also witness some outstanding mountain views along the way. If that number scares you, believe me, the whole adventure is worth the effort. Also, don’t worry because along the trail there are benches and places where you can rest your legs.
Therefore, pack a bottle of water, put comfortable shoes on and be ready for a great workout .
After you get to the top you will arrive on a plateau and from there take several more stairs down to get to the waterfall. There is a gate that separates the waterfall and the stairs, probably for safety precautions. And if you are asking if you could swim there, the answer is definitely no. That gate being there should tell you that already, so please be safe and don’t get around it.
Where to stay?
Because Savica Slap is very close to both Bled and Bohinj, you can stay in either. We booked our accommodation in Bohinj because we stayed several days to visit the surroundings. We got the best place, with this gorgeous balcony view that faced the mountains.
Apartment House Jager was the ideal place for us. Breakfast was also included and it was very good. The host was welcoming and took such good care of his guests. He also provided us with a map and explained how we could get around. If this won’t convince you to give this place a try, then maybe the photos below will. Close your eyes and just imagine drinking your coffee while admiring this glorious view and breathing the fresh air.

How long is the hike?
As I already mentioned, in order to get to the Savica Slap you will have to climb 500 stairs. Depending on how many breaks you take (you are going to take several for sure because the landscape is breathtaking and it demands you have a photoshoot) may take more or less time.
No matter how many stairs there are, don’t rush the hike, enjoy it and prepare for the glorious waterfall that awaits you in the end.
What to expect from visiting Savica Slap?
“There’s no better place to find yourself than sitting by a waterfall while listening to its music” – Roland R Kemler.
This quote is perfect to describe the experience I had at Savica Slap. This waterfall is one of a kind among other waterfalls in the world. It turns into two separate branches and appears on the surface both in a smaller and a larger stream of water.
This phenomenon is referred to as a shape “A” waterfall. The area near the gate that separates the trail used by visitors and the waterfall, is narrow and it can get crowded really fast. Because of that, people take turns.
You need to have patience and wait your turn, Savica Slap is worth it. I find that as travelers it is crucial to show respect to other visitors and wait instead of piling on. Remember, there is no need to rush, the waterfall will wait for you .
Beside the sweat and muscle soreness, the most important thing that stayed with me from this place was the vibration and the sounds that the waterfall was creating. We spent several moments near the gate with our eyes closed and just listened to the sounds.
After our visit to Savica Slap, we felt more energized and something changed in our overall mood. I highly encourage you to do the same and please reach out and let me know how it felt. Seriously, I’m very curious to know about your experience.
I hope you find this Savica Slap waterfall useful and convince you to plan your next trip in Slovenia while adding this place on your itinerary.
