Want to enjoy delicious dishes based on fresh fish in a beautiful secluded place? If the answer is yes this means Campu Cetatii can be the perfect place for that.
If you are visiting Transylvania or the Northern part of Romania, you should definitely take the opportunity to include Campu Cetatii on your itinerary.
Fishing cottages are a common business, especially in the rural areas of Romania, and consist of building proper water ponds, where trout can be raised. Most of them are basically fishing farms, where fish are sold to markets or used for cooking in local restaurants.
Campu Cetatii Fishing Cottage is a family business, founded on the skill and experience of several generations. Visiting this place can be both a culinary experience and a learning one, as well. After enjoying some delicious trout, guests have the opportunity to learn the secrets of raising these fish or discover the picturesque places in the area.
If you want to spend several days here, the cottage offers accommodation in small and cute houses. Also, there are hiking trails near Câmpu Cetății that you can explore while you stay there.
If you like fishing, you can try your luck with equipment provided by the cottage owners.
Also, I would add Campu Cetatii Village itself on your itinerary. It’s a beautiful place to visit and enjoy if you are in the area. Campu Cetatii is very small with only 350 inhabitants.
On our way to Bucovina, we stopped here because we had heard that Câmpu Cetății has the best-roasted trout and we couldn’t resist the temptation.
We arrived at Câmpu Cetății on a sunny day in September in 2020, and we were greeted by the peaceful atmosphere and beauty of this place. As I mentioned in the beginning of this article, this is a hidden gem surrounded by nature and tranquility.
We chose to eat roasted trout fillet and roasted salmon trout fillet with polenta along with three different garlic sauces. I don’t know if you like garlic, but if you do we can be friends because I love it 😂.
Unless you are a vampire, you have no solid reason to say no to garlic! We ordered: simple garlic sauce, one with smoked paprika, and one with sour cream. This whole meal cost us around 25 euro (2 beers were included).
It was the first time we tasted salmon trout fillet. We found out that this is a different kind of trout that is raised in Romania and due to a specific diet his meat is pink and is healthier to consume (hence the name salmon trout). The taste was delicious, actually, all the dishes that we ordered were amazing.
After our meal, we walked the grounds, took some photos, and admired the surroundings. The whole atmosphere was peaceful and welcoming and I get why this place is famous. The food is an absolute delight, the people are inviting and the land is beautiful.
Furthermore, the prices are very affordable and if you’re interested, you can check some examples below:
- Roasted trout fillet – 6 euro
- Each garlic sauce – 1 euro
- Fishing fee – 10 euro/day (available for tourists that stay at the cottage)
- Fishing rod for rent – 1 euro

Also, I recommend you check out the reviews on Google Maps, they got 4,5 stars out of 5 and pretty good feedback!
